About Us
The Flagler/Volusia Chapter of the FSMTA is dedicated to bringing excellence in the
massage profession to the Greater Daytona Beach area, being available to
provide service to some 400,000 residents, as well as over 1,000,000 visitors each
year.
We are also active at various sporting events, parades, and fund-raising marches, as well
as some of the many festivals and special events that are held
throughout the area each year.
A large part of the Flagler/Volusia Chapters' activities are conducted by our "Sports
Massage Team", who provide specialized pre and post-event massage
to athletes at various sporting events throughout the entire state of Florida. Our
therapists have done massage at three Olympics, Disney Marathons, triathlons,
(recently the Milennium Woman March, the Daytona Easter Beach Run) and more.

What IS Sports Massage???

Sports Massage is a rapidly
evolving specialty within the field of Massage Therapy. It combines classic and specific
techniques designed to provide therapeutic impact for the unique biochemical needs of
athletes.
It maintains the entire body
in better physical condition, helps prevent injuries and loss of mobility in potential
trouble spots, cures and restores mobility to injured muscle tissue and boosts athletic
performance and endurance to the athlete.
Sports Massage therapy
includes;
PRE-EVENT MASSAGE...
Administered a day or so before the event to assist the athlete, basically preparing them
to perform optimally.
EVENT MASSAGE.........
Administered just prior to the event...Stimulates circulation, warms the body's
fascial encasement for maximum performance.
POST-EVENT MASSAGE. Administered
after an event to help restore the muscles to a resting and homeostatic state.
RECOVERY MASSAGE..
Used after the period of physical exertion, allowing the therapist to
evaluate, and apply care to any injured parts.
MAINTENANCE MASSAGE...Administered
in the "off season" for maintenance and keeping the athlete in optimal condition
to prevent injuries.
